Siesta Dorada  

First off, you'll be staying in spacious apartments with separate kitchen and living/dining rooms. These newly refurbished spaces are a palette of warm yellows, soft creams and brilliant whites – all furnished with pine wood furniture pieces. Facilities include air-conditioning, satellite TV and even a washing machine. In the kitchen, there's everything you could need to rustle up some decent dinners – from an oven to the convenience of a kettle and toaster. And with an on-site bakery for fresh bread in the morning and a large supermarket for all the essentials, self-catering suddenly seems a lot simpler.

Outside of your apartment, you have two swimming pools as well as a separate pool for the kids. This central area is an ideal spot for sunbathing, with spacious grassy areas dotted with sunbeds to plonk yourself down on. Later on, when it's time to swap the sun for some sangria, you can head straight to the bar/restaurant for some refreshment. And with food on offer here too, you can do the holiday thing of just eating, drinking and sunbathing without having to go out.

The apartments are in a quiet area of Salou – away from all the well-trodden streets of the centre. But should you want to escape the tranquillity of this complex, you can walk the 5-10 minutes to the beach or hop on a nearby bus for a spot of shopping in Salou. And if you really want to trade peace and quiet for screams and laughter, the Portaventura theme park is just a 15 minute bus ride away or the waterpark of La Pineda, around a 15 minute bus ride.
